fracas

The Obligatory ‘About’ Page

[Updated October 5 , 2009]

Fracas. The word.

In English, it’s a noisy quarrel or uproar. The word is a loan from French, although the French fracas seems to be more about noise than conflict, and the French ‘fracas’ needn’t be created by thinking or unthinking beings, as in the English ‘fracas’.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (2nd Edition – 1989), ultimately it comes from the Italian fracassare, `to make an uproar’.

Fracas. The person.

Canadian. Saskatchewan. Happy to be over 40. Opinionated (which sometimes causes an uproar).

Fracas. The avatar.

Currently, it’s a snip of the banner, which is a very fraccy Canadian Goose with a very fraccy attitude. It’s from a photo taken by fracas, while out enjoying a neighborhood lake with one of the fraccy children. A picture says a thousand words. Fracas is clearly, not your average Canadian Goose.

Fracas. The blog.

Once upon a time, I’d intended to create an uproar giving away images that were actually free, not free-with-a-bunch-of-conditions-that-mean-you-really-can’t-use-them-for-anything. To fill in the gaps between image postings, I wrote… and it soon became clear that you liked what I wrote more than you liked my images.

I began posting about things I like, like really great bras… and shoes; I posted naughty jokes and I made fun of things happening in the world.

And you liked it.

Not surprising really… why wouldn’t anyone like to see photos of bras and sexy shoes?

Most of you were happy, it seemed, and yet there have been a few of you who just don’t understand how someone who can be vocal about her belief in things like marriage and God, speaks out about eating disorders, abstinence, teen drug use, encourages self-esteem and people making confident and brave choices for themselves, could also be the same person who (horrors) posts sexy (or sometimes naughty)  things!

So it’s like this.

I, fracas, am an adult female who happens to know that it’s quite ok for adults to be sexual in the appropriate context. It’s ok to think bras (and the boobs in them) are nice to look at, ok to tell a naughty joke, ok to in other words… be a normal adult keeping all these things in the right place in one’s life.

There is a reason so many women love shoes… and sexy lingerie. Shoes and lingerie are the great equalizer. Society finds so many ways to make us all feel inadequate. We’re too fat, too thin, too blonde, not blonde enough, too tall, too short, too tanned, not tanned enough. Put on a nice bra or a beautiful pair of shoes though, and no one can deny that it just makes a person feel good. Not unlike why a great haircut makes us feel wonderful and not unlike why some of you (when you want to feel uplifted) head for the bathtub and your favorite bubble bath. So long as any person is able to keep these little things we do (to feel good) in the right perspective… in a healthy balance, it is quite ok.

It’s really that simple.

I haven’t ’sold out’ on my ideals, I haven’t fallen’t into the den of inequity. I’m just mature enough to understand that I was born a woman and it’s ok to be one, feel like one and act like one without trading in my brain or my conscience.

I do not market this blog to the teen world, and if/when they find themselves here, I encourage them to make good choices in their life. What is ok for adults, is not always ok for teens… but that doesn’t mean adults must refrain from being adults out of guilt. I am a grown woman; they are not. This is an important message to give our youth. Everything has a time and a place. They will one day, be adults too and will want to give that message to their own children. If we fail to teach it, so will they.

So… if the fracas blog brings you enjoyment, keep visiting. In fact, link to me, stumble or digg me… and if you can, donate something to help keep it here. It’s a lot of time and effort to keep entertaining folks.

If the fracas blog offends you, then why the frac are you here? You, like me, are free to live your life exactly how you choose. If you don’t appreciate lingerie and naughty jokes, don’t. Don’t wear it, don’t read them. I promise I won’t come to your site and tell you that there’s something wrong with you because you don’t.

And that… is fracas.

So go ahead…  post your questions.

I might even answer them.

Hi, I like your site. I write a comedy blog, I wondered if you wanted to take part in an interview to highlight your site. My blog is http://mrjoeblogs.blogspot.com. The questions are as follows :

Sum up what your blog is about.
Why are you doing your blog?
What’s the funniest entry on your site?
What is your writing style?
What do people commonly say about your site?
What would you be doing if you weren’t doing your blog?
Why should someone visit your site?
What did you learn from your first love?
Are there any blogs, you enjoy reading?
If you could invite anyone to a dinner party who would it be and why?
What one website would you recommend and why?
Tell us about a good deed you have done recently.
Tell us a random funny story that comes to mind.
What advice would you have given yourself 5 years ago?
Any interesting travel stories?
What’s the most incredible thing that ever happened to you.
Now it’s your turn! Ask me one question, anything you like.

I’ve been over to Joe Blog’s and snatched your email address. I’ll send you the answers shortly.

I see you’ve got Sid on your list of “Classic” Interviews.

Seeing as how there’s a possibility Sid is the father of Anna Nicole’s baby… and Fracas was the one to break that news, you should probably reserve a place for Fracas on that list too.

Just a suggestion. ; – )

Thanks for prompting me (via FMB) to actually read your About page! I’m glad you did (and I just had to give you another Fuel by way of apology for missing it first time round).

Kind Regards

Aww, thanks. I’ll take those FMB votes any (honest) way i can get them! Thinking it over now… if you’re voting for me every day now (which I hope you are) then how can you give me an extra vote? Hmmmm. You’d better not do that. How about you just tell everyone else how wonderful I am and let them vote for me?

:-D

Hi Francas: I need your help. I noticed you have the pay pal donation button worknig on your site. I can’t get mine to work, I use wordpress too and I am cutting and pasting the paypal provided HTML into a text widget. No luck.

A few of my regulars asked if I accept donations, so I figured it was time to start. Perhaps build up a fund for NEDA, need to think about the best option here.

Thanks!

Hey Mama… I’ll be happy to help. I have to run out in about three minutes for an appointment (just checking to make sure no porn comments have snuck by the filters again) and when I get back, I’ll create a post about it since lots of people have trouble setting it up. It has to be donations only, because WordPress TOS states we can’t actively sell from our blogs.

I’ll do a screen capture and post it, so anyone having trouble setting it up can follow along easy. I had trouble also, when I set mine up. Almost pulled out my hair till I found the answer.

Be back later… I promise. Your site should accept donations… you’re helping people! Hugs!

Hi, I have just been introduced to your site through Five Moms. I am meeting with one of the mothers from the group today in St. Petersburgh, Florida. I am originally from Quebec and raised my children in Moncton, New Brunswick. I have recently written a book, “Just Love Her: A Mother’s Journey of Healing Through Her Daughter’s Drug Addiction” and I lead a group in Venice, Florida called PAST:Parents of Addicts Sharing Time. I also have a prayer page on my website for family’s of addicts. I am so grateful for my faith and belief in the power of prayer when my daughter was using drugs and living on the streets. Please have a look at my website and if you feel led, I would love to hear from you and the possibility of you sharing my prayer page with others. Thank you so much for this blog. With love and gratitude, Trina

Comment by Trina Hayes

Thanks Trina.. I’ll be sure to get over to your site. We’ll be going away for a late holiday so don’t think I’ve forgotten about you. I promise to share your prayer page with others. When a kid is on the streets, parents have little else to rely on, and it is so important to have that!

I found myself in your blogroll, thought I’d say thanks and reciprocate! *love and thanks*

Just taking the tour after the “nice” award from Reggie. But I really want to know where the talk amongst yourselves came from, I just remember Mike Meyers on Saturday Night Live doing a skit about cute little Jewish women and Barbara Strisand (I have no idea how to spell) and he would say that. 8-)

Great site! I’d love to see more baby Ethan videos – what a fantastic laugh!

Comment by Jackqueline Lou

Oh.. I see it might’ve looked like baby Ethan was my baby… and I was posting his babylicious jolly laughter as a proud mommy.

Not so. I’m way too old for that. LOL. My “baby” is on his way to being 12, and my older two are 17 and (almost) 21.

They laugh too, but somehow it’s not quite as cute as Ethan. If one of my kids was laughing that hard at papa ripping up some paper, I’d have to think the subject of the torn paper was a loan from us…

… the next thing I’d be is worried about that wacky tobaccy.

Thank goodness I can stick to baby Ethan. I found him at youtube.

WOW! A new blog theme everyday, eh? Well, why not?

I just dropped in to leave a comment so you have an email address for me. You know me by another wordpress.com handle. Please do not reveal it here if you guess what it is. Instead click on my name and get an update on my private life. When you do then you will know how much the support you have been giving me means to me.

Namaste ( I salute the divine light within both thee and me in that time and space within us, wherein we are one. )

Comment by brightfeather

Hi! I tried the Saphire theme for most of the first day, but after realizing I wouldn’t be able to change the functionality of the theme (to make the sidebar show up on more than the home page) I gave it up. I chose this one because it had some things I liked and with a CSS upgrade, I can change a couple of other things I want to change. I think I’ll be sticking to this one for awhile.

I visited your site and send you big hugs. I know I’m just an online person, but if cyber hugs could really make a person feel better, you’d be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and all that stuff. I would’ve made the same choice about the trip as you, and I’m so sorry about the other happenings. I won’t post it all here. Just know that I think you’re awesome and inspiring to others!

Don’t like beer? What does that mean?????? ;-)

Comment by Jill

Hi Jill. It’s a common stereotype about Canadians, that we love and drink a lot of beer. Since I’d stated up front that I was Canadian, that’s what the “don’t like beer” comment meant.

I plan to change this about page soon anyway. Not that I’ve learned to like beer… lol, I just thought it was time for a change. I move the furniture at home around a lot too. ;-)

Comment by fracas

Hi there – I like your theme and your blog – I am adding you to all the usual -Technorati favourites, my blogroll etc etc and I will be back!
Thanks for introducing yourself over at my place!

Hi fracas

Have you read the book Power shift?

Comment by Max

I haven’t, but which one do you mean? There are two.

Comment by fracas

Huh, and here I thought I was the only Canadian who doesn’t like beer OR hockey …

Comment by Tanya

Well it’s mighty good to meet you. I’m always pleased to find another Candian blogger… and even more so if it’s someone else who agrees that beer is pee water and hockey is just a bunch of immature dudes with a license to fight.

Uh oh… I’m gonna have to hide for that one. ;-)

Just a note to let you know I enjoy your blog a great deal. One thing — I have a suspicion, based upon what I’ve read, that you just might enjoy my most recent post, titled, Women: The Power that Transforms. It’s just a hunch . . . :-)

If you grab a moment, stop by.

Hi… I think I’ve figured out a way to take an active stance against Sploggers and Blog Scrapers. You’ve probably noticed the pings I’ve sent your way from my two blogs (Salted Lithium and Cultural Sn:afu)… I’ve started another one called “Exposing Sploggers”, you can find it at exposingsploggers.wordpress.com.

The basic idea is as individuals there’s really not much we can do to stop people from stealing our content, but as a group we can fight back using public information and very little effort.

Exposing Sploggers would act as a repository for splogger and blog scraper links… people would send the URL’s to me (us), then I would use the WhoIs sites to find the names and emails of the Sploggers. I would then send them an email demanding the Splogger take the content off their site. When they refused to do so we would then…

1. Publish the emails of each of the sploggers on Exposing Sploggers
2. Have bloggers copy and paste the whole thing into an email
3. The bloggers would then send the email to the Sploggers as a group.

So with 100 bloggers each Splogger would receive 100 emails… with 1000 bloggers, of course, it gets better.

I would very much like your input on this, I believe it is very doable… especially with the support of bloggers such as yourself and others.

Sorry for all the pings, but your site does have excellent information regarding the splogging and blog scraping issues and the more educated we can make people the better.

Thanks…

Hi fracas,

I just thought I’d leave a reply as I found your content rich blog very interesting!

I love writing but I just don’t seem to ever get around to it; Do you have 36 hours in your days or something?

Keep up the great work ;)

Comment by Jay

Just double checking to see if I can comment here……

Comment by virgomonkey

Hi Gabriel – I support your carrying on that fight!

Jay – Sometimes I’m doing laundry or digging up lawn or something like that, and a post idea just pops into my head. I don’t generally sit down and wait for an idea, rather an idea happens first. I keep drafts of ideas so that when the rest of how to work it out happens it the fraccy brain, I can just open it up and finish it. I think I have about two dozen drafts right now. ;-)

Thanks for the VOC.

virgomonkey – I’ve left a comment in the support forums for you again. I know it’s frustrating being spam but just hang on a bit longer and hopefully we’ll get that fixed for good.

Comment by fracas
