Fracas. The word.
In English, it’s a noisy quarrel or uproar. The word is a loan from French, although the French fracas seems to be more about noise than conflict, and the French ‘fracas’ needn’t be created by thinking or unthinking beings, as in the English ‘fracas’.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary (2nd Edition - 1989), ultimately it comes from the Italian fracassare, `to make an uproar’.
Fracas. The person.
Canadian. Saskatchewan.
No, I can’t see all the way to British Columbia if I look out my back door. No, I don’t like beer. I don’t say “eh” unless I’m being a smart ass, and I’ve never seen an igloo. Want to know more, then post and ask. I might not tell you, but then again… it might be the makings of an uproar.
Fracas. The uproar.
I started out thinking I would create an uproar by offering images that were actually free. I was tired of searching for “free” images only to find out that the rules for using them were so complicated that in the end, they were only free if you didn’t plan on using them for anything. I thought I’d use the free images as a gateway to an online business that would allow me to work from home.
And then I began writing entries that had nothing to do with images.
And I learned that people would read what I wrote and actually enjoy what I wrote.
And so the images were posted less often, and the fraccy ramblings happened more often and in the process, I learned something important. I made friends, I joined blogging communities and I decided that the uproar I would and could make, would be what ended up being the write-up provided for the fracas entry in the fuelmyblog book The Human Behind The Avatar. The photo you see is the photo that appears in the book. The write-up is as follows:
No one on their death bed ever looks back on their life and wishes they’d worked more, been more serious, spent less time with their loved ones or friends, or laughed less. A quote most often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson (but actually should be credited to Bessie Anderson Stanley) sums it up best.
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
So fracas the blog, became a place where people (including myself) laugh often and much; fracas the person, became someone who seeks to find the best in others and who tries to leave the world a little bit better than she found it.
That’s me. Fracas.

Comment by joe blogs February 16, 2007 @ 4:28 pmI’ve been over to Joe Blog’s and snatched your email address. I’ll send you the answers shortly.
I see you’ve got Sid on your list of “Classic” Interviews.
Seeing as how there’s a possibility Sid is the father of Anna Nicole’s baby… and Fracas was the one to break that news, you should probably reserve a place for Fracas on that list too.
Just a suggestion. ; - )

Comment by fracas April 11, 2007 @ 4:24 pmThanks for prompting me (via FMB) to actually read your About page! I’m glad you did (and I just had to give you another Fuel by way of apology for missing it first time round).
Kind Regards

Comment by Thomas Hamburger Jnr May 11, 2007 @ 12:08 pmAww, thanks. I’ll take those FMB votes any (honest) way i can get them! Thinking it over now… if you’re voting for me every day now (which I hope you are) then how can you give me an extra vote? Hmmmm. You’d better not do that. How about you just tell everyone else how wonderful I am and let them vote for me?
:-D
Comment by fracas May 12, 2007 @ 9:06 pmHi Francas: I need your help. I noticed you have the pay pal donation button worknig on your site. I can’t get mine to work, I use wordpress too and I am cutting and pasting the paypal provided HTML into a text widget. No luck.
A few of my regulars asked if I accept donations, so I figured it was time to start. Perhaps build up a fund for NEDA, need to think about the best option here.
Thanks!

Hey Mama… I’ll be happy to help. I have to run out in about three minutes for an appointment (just checking to make sure no porn comments have snuck by the filters again) and when I get back, I’ll create a post about it since lots of people have trouble setting it up. It has to be donations only, because WordPress TOS states we can’t actively sell from our blogs.
I’ll do a screen capture and post it, so anyone having trouble setting it up can follow along easy. I had trouble also, when I set mine up. Almost pulled out my hair till I found the answer.
Be back later… I promise. Your site should accept donations… you’re helping people! Hugs!

Comment by joebec July 24, 2007 @ 4:26 pmHi, I have just been introduced to your site through Five Moms. I am meeting with one of the mothers from the group today in St. Petersburgh, Florida. I am originally from Quebec and raised my children in Moncton, New Brunswick. I have recently written a book, “Just Love Her: A Mother’s Journey of Healing Through Her Daughter’s Drug Addiction” and I lead a group in Venice, Florida called PAST:Parents of Addicts Sharing Time. I also have a prayer page on my website for family’s of addicts. I am so grateful for my faith and belief in the power of prayer when my daughter was using drugs and living on the streets. Please have a look at my website and if you feel led, I would love to hear from you and the possibility of you sharing my prayer page with others. Thank you so much for this blog. With love and gratitude, Trina
Comment by Trina Hayes August 22, 2007 @ 12:52 pmThanks Trina.. I’ll be sure to get over to your site. We’ll be going away for a late holiday so don’t think I’ve forgotten about you. I promise to share your prayer page with others. When a kid is on the streets, parents have little else to rely on, and it is so important to have that!
Comment by fracas August 23, 2007 @ 12:11 pmI found myself in your blogroll, thought I’d say thanks and reciprocate! *love and thanks*

Comment by somegosoftly August 24, 2007 @ 12:35 pmJust taking the tour after the “nice” award from Reggie. But I really want to know where the talk amongst yourselves came from, I just remember Mike Meyers on Saturday Night Live doing a skit about cute little Jewish women and Barbara Strisand (I have no idea how to spell) and he would say that. 8-)

Comment by linc654 October 9, 2007 @ 8:32 pmLove your site, I think I may have an interesting opportunity for you in order to gain more traffic
Comment by Pat October 17, 2007 @ 3:35 pmGreat site! I’d love to see more baby Ethan videos - what a fantastic laugh!
Comment by Jackqueline Lou November 10, 2007 @ 11:23 pmOh.. I see it might’ve looked like baby Ethan was my baby… and I was posting his babylicious jolly laughter as a proud mommy.
Not so. I’m way too old for that. LOL. My “baby” is on his way to being 12, and my older two are 17 and (almost) 21.
They laugh too, but somehow it’s not quite as cute as Ethan. If one of my kids was laughing that hard at papa ripping up some paper, I’d have to think the subject of the torn paper was a loan from us…
… the next thing I’d be is worried about that wacky tobaccy.
Thank goodness I can stick to baby Ethan. I found him at youtube.
Comment by fracas November 11, 2007 @ 1:13 amWOW! A new blog theme everyday, eh? Well, why not?
I just dropped in to leave a comment so you have an email address for me. You know me by another wordpress.com handle. Please do not reveal it here if you guess what it is. Instead click on my name and get an update on my private life. When you do then you will know how much the support you have been giving me means to me.
Namaste ( I salute the divine light within both thee and me in that time and space within us, wherein we are one. )
Comment by brightfeather November 18, 2007 @ 8:05 pmHi! I tried the Saphire theme for most of the first day, but after realizing I wouldn’t be able to change the functionality of the theme (to make the sidebar show up on more than the home page) I gave it up. I chose this one because it had some things I liked and with a CSS upgrade, I can change a couple of other things I want to change. I think I’ll be sticking to this one for awhile.
I visited your site and send you big hugs. I know I’m just an online person, but if cyber hugs could really make a person feel better, you’d be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and all that stuff. I would’ve made the same choice about the trip as you, and I’m so sorry about the other happenings. I won’t post it all here. Just know that I think you’re awesome and inspiring to others!
Comment by fracas November 19, 2007 @ 10:45 amDon’t like beer? What does that mean?????? ;-)
Comment by Jill November 24, 2007 @ 10:59 amHi Jill. It’s a common stereotype about Canadians, that we love and drink a lot of beer. Since I’d stated up front that I was Canadian, that’s what the “don’t like beer” comment meant.
I plan to change this about page soon anyway. Not that I’ve learned to like beer… lol, I just thought it was time for a change. I move the furniture at home around a lot too. ;-)
Comment by fracas November 24, 2007 @ 1:35 pmHi there - I like your theme and your blog - I am adding you to all the usual -Technorati favourites, my blogroll etc etc and I will be back!
Comment by Diane December 2, 2007 @ 3:22 amThanks for introducing yourself over at my place!
Hi Diane. As you know, I’ve commented at your blog… and added you to my fuelroll too.
Thanks!
Comment by fracas December 26, 2007 @ 11:28 pmHi fracas
Have you read the book Power shift?
Comment by Max January 3, 2008 @ 3:35 pmI haven’t, but which one do you mean? There are two.
Comment by fracas January 4, 2008 @ 11:50 amHuh, and here I thought I was the only Canadian who doesn’t like beer OR hockey …
Comment by Tanya January 6, 2008 @ 7:41 pmWell it’s mighty good to meet you. I’m always pleased to find another Candian blogger… and even more so if it’s someone else who agrees that beer is pee water and hockey is just a bunch of immature dudes with a license to fight.
Uh oh… I’m gonna have to hide for that one. ;-)
Comment by fracas January 6, 2008 @ 11:29 pmJust a note to let you know I enjoy your blog a great deal. One thing — I have a suspicion, based upon what I’ve read, that you just might enjoy my most recent post, titled, Women: The Power that Transforms. It’s just a hunch . . . :-)
If you grab a moment, stop by.

Comment by cooties March 28, 2008 @ 10:53 pmHi… I think I’ve figured out a way to take an active stance against Sploggers and Blog Scrapers. You’ve probably noticed the pings I’ve sent your way from my two blogs (Salted Lithium and Cultural Sn:afu)… I’ve started another one called “Exposing Sploggers”, you can find it at exposingsploggers.wordpress.com.
The basic idea is as individuals there’s really not much we can do to stop people from stealing our content, but as a group we can fight back using public information and very little effort.
Exposing Sploggers would act as a repository for splogger and blog scraper links… people would send the URL’s to me (us), then I would use the WhoIs sites to find the names and emails of the Sploggers. I would then send them an email demanding the Splogger take the content off their site. When they refused to do so we would then…
1. Publish the emails of each of the sploggers on Exposing Sploggers
2. Have bloggers copy and paste the whole thing into an email
3. The bloggers would then send the email to the Sploggers as a group.
So with 100 bloggers each Splogger would receive 100 emails… with 1000 bloggers, of course, it gets better.
I would very much like your input on this, I believe it is very doable… especially with the support of bloggers such as yourself and others.
Sorry for all the pings, but your site does have excellent information regarding the splogging and blog scraping issues and the more educated we can make people the better.
Thanks…
Comment by Gabriel... April 4, 2008 @ 12:30 amHi fracas,
