Yeah, you know who you are. You’re one of those people who raced over to the scene of Freeman’s vehicle accident last night and, with no self-respect or compassion for a man trapped in his car after having just been through a horrific crash, tried to take photos of him on your cellphone.
You suck.
According to CNN, Freeman was kind enough to make a joke of it, responding to the jerk, “No freebies, no freebies.”
I’m not so kind.
Being in a vehicle accident is a frightening experience, and celebrity or not, anyone’s first instinct should be care and consideration of the person and the trauma they’ve just experienced, not catching it on your cellphone, so for the benefit of all you asshats out there who don’t seem to know the right thing to do after witnessing an accident, or coming upon one, I’ve prepared these tips for you.
- Use your cellphone to call for assistance, not to take photos of the injured party, celebrity or not.
- If assistance is already there, use your cellphone to call someone you love and tell them you love them. That person in the car getting assistance could’ve been you. You’re lucky it wasn’t. Use your good fortune to tell that to someone you love.
- If you witnessed the accident, for PETE’s sake, don’t drive away. Wait until immediate medical dangers are dealt with and then make yourself available to authorities as a witness. If you can’t stay, make sure you leave your information with someone so that you can be contacted later. Someone’s driving record or their bank account may depend on a reliable witness giving information. If you don’t do the right thing, expect that bitch, Karma, to make sure someday you suffer the same fate as the poor sap you’re taking off on. This also applies if you had anything to do with causing the accident.
- If you can be of assistance, offer it. If you can’t, stay out of the damn way.
Some reports are now coming out that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Fracas has a newsflash too.
Celebrities are people too!
When you or I make mistakes that are embarassing and don’t always show us in our best light, ours are often made with no one but those close to us to make note. For a celebrity, their mistakes are broadcast all over the world. Whether those reports are true are not, being in an accident is a terrible experience. He didn’t go out without underwear and flash his naughty bits for the press, he didn’t happen upon the “Girls Gone Wild” trailer and drunkenly offer himself to the world and he didn’t position himself at the most well-known paparazzi’d restaurant and stage a tantrum to be immortalized in someone’s camera… he got in an accident that I’m pretty sure he wishes he hadn’t.
May Freeman be allowed to recuperate in peace and privacy.
So… Joe cellphone?
Stay home and use your cellphone camera to take photos of your loved ones doing silly things. Those at least, you’ll be able to view at a family gathering someday, and actually enjoy.

Comment by Carrie August 4, 2008 @ 5:51 PM[...] Morgan Freeman’s sense of humour was not injured in the crash (Fracas) [...]
Pingback by Iced Coffee and Foot Massage Links » Ayyyy! August 4, 2008 @ 6:08 PMOuch! I’ve been a fan of his ever since he was working with The Children’s Television Workshop in the 70s.
Does this mean video cams in the bedroom without written consent are no-no’s as well, Ms. Fracas?
Comment by John August 4, 2008 @ 8:40 PMI’m a 76 year old women, a fan of yours. Enjoyed all your movies. Sorry about your accident. Wishing the best for you. I think you are having a great recovery.
I’m looking at Driving Miss Daisy and enjoying it all over again.
Bernie Mac death shocked me today. Two days ago his publisist said Bernie was recovering well and this morning a shocking news cast. It seems like there is something wrong there. Perhaps, too many medications that shot his immune system down.
Happy to see you better than most of us!
Comment by Rosalie August 9, 2008 @ 9:45 PMDP – Last I read he’d broken bones but has since been released.
Carrie – Only if she flashed you some bare bits on purpose. Then you know she wanted you to post it. ;-)
John – Was he on the Children’s Television Workshop? Wow, you have a good memory. But umm… video cams in your own bedroom are ok if you allow it I guess… That’s kind TMI for me. LOL
Rosalie – I think if I were he in that car, I’d not have been so gracious to Joe Cellphone so that definitely makes him better than me!
