How to make your dreams come true!

Out there, are bloggers who will steal your work. Out there are bloggers who, after deciding that your blog is exactly what they wish their blog was, will try copy the ideas you have, the way you present those ideas, and anything else they can get their grubby little hands on.

And they will fail, because they are not you.

Watching pop culture this past week has caused somewhat of a fraccy revelation that I want to share with those of you who seek to make your dreams come true.

I will explain.

I, like many others viewers of Dancing With the Stars, had taken to cheering for Cristián de la Fuente. I hadn’t thought I cared much about this season, but the night he injured his arm somehow got my attention. It amazed me that he continued to compete, and as he performed the two weeks afterward, I was impressed at what he was able to do with only one good arm, as compared to the rest of the competitors who had full use of both of theirs. Truly, I found his performances every bit as captivating as anything done by anyone else.

And so I began to root for him.

When he was eliminated at third place, I was sad and didn’t really even think the rest of the show was worth watching. I decided to check out a little more of what he was about and who he really was. I learned that he hadn’t set out to be a celebrity, an actor, or a dancer. In fact, he had a very different life happening at one point. I found his MySpace page, and on it… words from him that I know I will remember all my life.

You should too.

He said:

“Funny thing is, while I was living this life – the life I thought I was supposed to live – I discovered that, sometimes, your dreams are so powerful, the world conspires to make them come true.”

And then, one night later, I watched the American Idol finale. I, like many others, had favoured David Cook for his refusal to be anything but himself, for being honest and not trying to turn himself into something that would get more votes, for performing songs because he wanted to perform them and not just choosing ones that would get votes… and for just being David regardless of the outcome. In spite of the list of positive reasons to hope for David Cook to win, I had still expected little David Archuleta, groomed for years to be the 2008 answer to Donny Osmond, to win.

Last night though, for David Cook… the world conspired to make his dreams come true.

Which brings me back to your blog (or your business, your family) and how you too, can make your dreams come true.

Cristián de la Fuente was busy being himself… and the world conspired to make his dreams come true. David Cook was busy being himself… and the world conspired to make his dreams come true. So if you want your dreams to come true, ask yourself who you really are; ask yourself what really makes you happy, what things you’ve done, written, performed or dreamed, that make you feel like you.

Do those things.

Don’t write what someone else is good at, don’t try be someone else. Be you, because if you get busy being yourself, and I do mean really being yourself

…the world will conspire to make your dreams come true!

[Perhaps this post isn't all that funny, but I would love it if the world would conspire to help me get to #1 at Humor-Blogs. All you have to do is click here to help!]

And a very fraccy thank you to Cristián de la Fuente, someone I am sure I will never meet, but whose words I will remember and quote long after no one ever remembers what MySpace or Dancing With the Stars ever was.

Hmmm…quite inspirational words!

And, for someone who’s truly quite green at this whole thing (me), your advice certainly hits the spot, and I’ll take heed.

ps: I did my part to make you #1, good luck!

I have always dreamt that my teeth are disintegrating and falling out and, you’re right, it has come true.
I also dream I’m stark naked somewhere in Canada plucking kiwis off a tree in a backyard being watched by a bespectacled witch – what are the chances?

I shall take you up on your tea offer this time, Daddy, and I tip my hat in gratitude.

And a fine morning to you, sir.

Fraccy, what a wonderful post. As always.

I was silently rooting for David Cook, too. I, too, thought David Archuleta winning was a foregone conclusion. I admit I even felt the “inevitable” victory would be more his father’s than his own.

I fully expected to watch David Cook smile and step back into the shadows. Except, instead, the world conspired to make his dreams come true and he looked into the camera with eyes filled with tears. It was an amazing ending to the season.

I went to Cristián de la Fuente’s blog. He also says this…

I’ve always believed that no matter what we do in life whether we’re teachers, students, parents, spouses, doctors, actors, we tend to go through life living in our own little “boxes.

It’s so important to break the mold and step outside whatever box we’re in and for once in our lives… DANCE ON TOP OF IT!

And then he says that when you dance on top of your little box, you’ll never want to get back inside it again.

Thank you for the inspiration. : )

The Rev. – Thanks for the click!

Daddy Papersurfer – Since I know kiwis don’t grow in Saskatchewan, that must mean you’ve gotten the directions wrong and there’s some other poor soul out there wondering why the heck there’s a naked Brit in her back yard. I do hope she hasn’t called the police.

RphChick – Thanks! Your Viagra post had me laughing. Everyone should click over and check out your stories. ;-)

Linda and aussiebabe – Thanks to both of you! Sometimes I think we open our mouths and the words are given to us because the “Big Guy” knows someone else needs to find/hear those words. I really do believe that.

XOXO

Today I came via another blogger (Carolyn at Laughing Alone in the Dark).

She said reading this post inspired her to do what she is now doing.

So I came – I’ve copied the quote and I’m going off to post it in my notes so that I can look at it every day and get inspiration from it.

What a wonderful quote – Frac!

Jessica – Thanks! Somehow missed your comment when it was posted. :-(

aims – Thanks for letting me know Carolyn had linked. The trackback system isn’t what it used to be here so I might not have known right away. I’ve visited her and your two blogs too. I must hook you and your bears up with my dear friends who help their bears manage Dear Teddy… they will be so pleased to meet your bears! And how awesome that you’re in AB and Carolyn’s in BC. I love to meet my fellow Canadian bloggers!
