Fracas’ The Monday Melee for May 5, 2008

1. The Magnificent: Name someone you absolutely adore, and tell us why.
Well it’s not that I don’t adore the others, but today I’m choosing to name the youngest fraccy child. Why? Because quite soon, he’s having a birthday, and birthdays cause we sappy mothers to remember when we were still “with” that child and all the stuff surrounding the day they were born.

2. The Muddy: Tell us something about life you just don’t “get”.
Giving bad service. I just don’t get it. Anytime a person doesn’t do their very best to perform their job the best they can, and give the person on the other end of their service the best they can, they are making a huge statement about themselves. So if you’re a clerk in a store (for example) and you give a customer bad service… it’s like shouting to everyone (and for sure that customer) that you are (choose all or any that apply) lazy, rude, careless, ambitionless, sloppy, crude, mean, pathetic, stupid, ignorant, devoid of manners and/or self-confidence, and don’t care about yourself.

Of course it means those things. Don’t think it doesn’t. If a person is the opposite of those things, they take pride in what they do no matter how big or small the task. Character is best defined when we think about what a person does when no one is looking or when they know they won’t get caught… or defined by what that person does when they know or think they don’t have to. How they perform their job says everything about who they are as a person… and therefore, if they can’t take pride enough in their job to do it well, then what gives them the right to think they deserve anything?  

If only people understood that. 

3. The Magnetic: Name something or someone good (or bad) you’re drawn to and you just can’t help it. Tell us if you want to change this or not.
I am drawn to plants and all things that can make my garden a place where no matter what else is wrong in the world, it is always right when I’m there.  I can’t think of a single reason to change that.

4. The Mainstay: Who or what is something you just can’t live without? Why?
See #3. Because when a person needs a place to go when the world overwhelms them, a garden is always there as a reminder of where you come from, where you will go and why that’s what really matters.

5. The Masquerade: Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t already know.
I am opinionated and once I’ve done the homework, it’s darn hard to change my mind.

6. The Mettle: Tell us about a time you showed courage in yourself, or tell us what you wish you had the courage to do.

I didn’t get assaulted that day while standing up for what I believe, but not everyone I was there with was that lucky.
