Beauty and the Geek

I’m not necessarily a reality show fan, but this is a show I like.

I didn’t think I would, but it turns out, I do.

The premise is that a bunch of really attractive girls/women and a bunch of (what we would normally call) geeky guys are placed in a house together to live for a time and compete against each other to win money. Each beauty is paired up with a geek, and they compete as a team. The goal is to each learn from the other in order to win the weekly competitions and stay in the game… thus, the pair who learns the most from each other is likely to win the money in the end. The geeks then, are challeged weekly, in things that would normally be the domain of the popular, pretty (yet dumb) girls and the girls are challenged to tests of intelligence. They must teach each other the ways of the other in order to have a chance.  In the process, they are transformed into a more well-rounded person than they were before.

It’s interesting to watch each learn about themselves, and discover that a person they’d have previously looked down upon is actually someone they may end up friends with.

But this isn’t a post about the show. No… this is a post about LindaC.

You see, the very idea of the show is that beautiful women are dumb and intelligent people are geeky and unattractive, and it occurred to me this morning (after reading a very funny and yet sneaky and slick idea she emailed me - just exactly the kind that would appeal to me) that she blows those stereotypes out of the water.

Linda is both the beauty and the geek. Beautiful, and yet smart.

And I am proud to call her my sis.

So hey.. why don’t you head over to fuelmyblog and fuel her today? Beauty and brains is worth at least a click!

And Linda… thanks for the hilarious idea.

Serfers have birthdays too.

Photo of a serfer cake.It has come to my attention that yet another birthday has arrived. This time it’s for the fruit of the elder papersurfer’s loins, that pleasant (not sure where he gets it from though) and yet talented king of the waves…

Papersurfer.

I’m not sure he’ll actually see this message though, for right now he and none other than tNb are off in foreign waters, galavanting (that really means surfing) to celebrate the fact that his birthday has arrived and he is oh… at least 53 years younger than the loins he was fruit of.  (Yes, you are correct, I do mean that GOG* we all know and ahem… tolerate.)

If you’ve been here before, you might know that when a fraccer has a birthday and I know about it, I find great joy in posting something special… something that speaks just to them, to convey my wishes for a birthday that’s as happy as a warm-fuzzy-slippers-on-a-cold-winter’s-night kind of day.

Of course, I went looking for a cake that would shout “Penfold… surfer extraordinaire” to the world, but as you can see, my first try went a bit awry.

I think the problem was in the spelling. Who’d have thought that a silly typo would still turn up a cake?  It was nice, but I wanted to find something more in line with what I was looking for.

Photo of a surfer cake.A few more clicks and I surely had it.

I’m sure this one will do the trick Penfold, so from me to you… a most happiest of 40th birthdays. I know right now, you’re probably thinking you’re just the luckiest guy on earth.

Yeah, yeah folks… I didn’t mean the cake or the birthday wish, I was talking about this.

May you have many, many more (yeah, even as many as the GOG*)
