Fracas’ The Monday Melee for February 26, 2008
1. The Magnificent: Name someone you absolutely adore, and tell us why.
Coming off the heels of that big party for my mom, I realized that I can’t just single out one of the people who helped me make it a great day for her, because there are a few people who individually did great things for me and her. So, I’m going to jump to something altogether different and say that I adore all of you who knew I wouldn’t be able to fuel you for a few days, or visit your blogs, and you continued to leave me really nice messages. If ever a soul needed proof that the internet isn’t all bad, all they have to do is meet some of you and they’d never think it again!
2. The Muddy: Tell us something about life you just don’t “get”.
I don’t understand it when people can’t place blame where blame should lie. For example… (and doesn’t everyone have one of these in their family?) Let’s say Aunt Maggie has an anger management problem and ruins every family gathering. Some people then expect everyone else to walk on eggshells so as not to upset Aunt Maggie, and if someone happens to say the wrong thing and Aunt Maggie ruins a family gathering, they blame the person who said the wrong thing, not Aunt Maggie. I don’t get that. When we dismiss someone’s behaviour as something “they can’t change” and try make everyone else “just accept them and what comes with their behaviour” we are really telling them that they don’t have to be responsible for themself, and that we will instead, assume all the responsibility for their behaviour.
That… is a bullshit stand to take, and one that deprives the Aunt Maggie’s of the world, the accomplishments that come from taking responsibility for their own selves and their own choices. It stunts a person, and makes all the other people around them resentful of them. I don’t get why people do that. I don’t/won’t do that. Sometimes that makes people think I’m a bitch. Oh well. I guess I need the shirt. If you so choose, you can send me a shirt. My address is in the sidebar. I’ll even take a picture of myself in it and post it.
3. The Magnetic: Name something or someone good (or bad) you’re drawn to and you just can’t help it. Tell us if you want to change this or not.
Well, it’s got to be coffee. Depending on the day, one can find “recent scientific studies” that will tell us it’s both good and bad, but in the sense that it does cause a person to have to spend money on teeth whitening products, we’ll call it bad. I don’t plan on changing it. I like coffee. I’ve mostly given up drinking soft drinks/pop/soda so I figure I have to hang on to something “bad” for me. Hello whitestrips.
4. The Mainstay: Who or what is something you just can’t live without? Why?
Faith
I have, like everyone else in life, had times where people have sorely disappointed me, let me down, or outright hurt me. I have never truly been let down, disappointed or hurt by Jesus/God.
5. The Masquerade: Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t already know.
Green Peppers make me sick. I love them, but trust me, eating them is not something you want me to do if you have to spend time with me later.
6. The Mettle: Tell us about a time you showed courage in yourself, or tell us what you wish you had the courage to do.
I hate heights, but my youngest really wanted to do the gondola thing at Banff. I went anyway, because I believe it’s important to show your kids that letting a fear get the best of you only deprives yourself of living. My answer to #4 is the reason for this though. I truly believe God gives us what we need to get through situations, but its our job to pull it out of ourselves and believe. Clicking on the link above will take you to a post about it. In that post, are some thumbnails that when clicked, will open up some really great pictures of what it’s like to look down the track the gondola uses to carry people up and down the mountain.
Now it’s your turn.
