Fracas’ The Monday Melee for January 14, 2008
Today’s Melee will be all about one subject… Snow/Winter.
It was one year ago January 10 and 11, that we endured a blizzard here. I thought it was fitting to Anniversary Melee it.
1. The Misanthtropic: Name something about humanity snow/winter you absolutely hate.
I hate that snow means cold. I hate being cold.
2. The Meretricious: Expose something or someone about snow/winter that’s phony, fraudulent or bogus.
The people that manufacture and sell snow shovels made of pvc/plastic and suck you into thinking they’ll last more than sixteen and a half minutes in Saskatchewan. Seriously folks… if you live here, you’d better have a snow shovel that’s either got a nice metal blade along the bottom of the plastic (won’t last as long as a metal shovel but longer than a plastic only shovel) or just buy the darn metal one. Yes, it costs more money, but do the math. Spend twice as much once or buy four of the one that cost half as much.
3. The Malcontent: Name something you’re unhappy with (about snow/winter).
I’m unhappy that snow has to be shoveled. No explanation necessary.
4. The Meritorious: Give someone snow/winter credit for something and name it if you can.
Winter is quite beautiful at times. I took photos after the blizzard, before anyone could disturb things too much. It was breathtakingly beautiful. I had the most difficult time choosing a photo to use in this post. The one you see is of some huge pine trees in my neighbour’s yard. I have others where I stood underneath their enormous trees and photographed from underneath the branches. Awesome. It was cold, but it was so beautiful I stayed out until my fingers were numb.
5. The Mirror: See something good about yourself snow/winter and name it.
Winter has a smell. If you haven’t experienced it, you are missing something wonderful. When you’re outside on a moderately cold, clear day, you come in smelling like winter. It’s the kind of a smell fabric softener companies would die to be able to replicate.
6. The Make-Believe: Name something (about snow/winter) you wish for.
I wish we could make it go away without all the slush and mess of spring. It’s truly a gross and dirty time.
Now it’s your turn.
You can take part in The Monday Melee, even make it a regular feature at your site by visiting The Monday Melee page and following the steps. Kick-start your brain on Mondays and meet other bloggers.

No, I’m not referring to that movie starring Robin Williams (which by the way, was nowhere near as good as reading the book… in fact, a positive disappointment compared to the book) I’m referring to poor Daddy Papersurfer.
Indeed, I speak of him so often here, you must all think he’s my actual dad. He’s not. He’s just old enough to be. (And that wasn’t an insult, he really is. Penfold could be my brother I suppose, had I been born over there and not been so fortunate as to have been chosen to be a lucky Canuck.)
It seems poor DaddyP has suffered some nightmarish dream and well, most who read of it, thought I would be a tad upset (having been called a huge arse and all) but no… if fracas is anything, she is kind, considerate and very sympathetic to those who are suffering.
And he truly is.
He is suffering in many ways, and in many ways to come. My heart simply breaks for the poor man.
I did some research (only in order to be of assistance to him in his time of need of course) and found some wonderful information on what exactly could be the cause of his dreaming such a thing about the lovely fracas.
You see?
He can’t help it. And yet, here I sit, spare bedroom and all occupied with the lovely Petra… who is, now that she has also read that post, filled with the mettle again and wishes to defend my good name (not to mention the atrocities of his implying my lovely fracarse is anything but petite).
What ever was I to do?
And then I recalled how, not more than a day or so ago, the very lovely, intelligent and witty (not to mention covenly and witchy) one known as the 70steen, did mail to me, a photo that held the answer. Along with the photo… some words that would today, be the answer this fraccy gal was looking for.
“Elected Sheriff of the Bra Posse inspects the troops ensuring a state of readiness and that the under wires are ready to spring into action when needed. Even those bras who have seen a lot of past action are their in support even though they are greying and not quite as taut as they once were.”
I will be able to assure Petra, that with the help of the Bra Posse (and if you noticed… the elected Sheriff is none other than the red bra, red being of course, the color of the CanadianMaple Leaf symbol as well as the dress color of the Mounted Police), it will be possible to not only keep this papersurfer elder under reasonable control, but also perhaps, escort him to the good doctor, where he will hopefully finally receive some help for what ails him. I am forever indebted to dear 70s for sending this along. It gives me the patience and hope to remain calm following such a dastardly comment about my arse.
I just hope there’s a cure for what the good dream site seems to think is his problem…

(The complete Sugar & Shinade fan club list will be at the bottom of this post, and updated with names as they arrive. If I miss your tag, please comment and direct me to your post.)
We all know and love Judy as the one and only Sugar Queen. She’s not the Sugar Queen only because she makes the best cakes, cookies and all things sugar, she’s the Sugar Queen because she honestly tries to bring happiness to everyone she meets.
Today, Judy’s feeling a bit burdened, and Judy needs a little sugar. I’m asking you all to help dish it up to her.
I’ve created this little “award” of sorts, and am asking everyone who comes by here to write a post about why you love Judy, take the image and include it in your post, link it to this post and I’ll find you and add you to the Judy fan club list. The reason for the link here, is so that Judy can take her image to her sidebar, link it to this one post, and anyone who clicks on it will get to see a list of how many people love Judy! Then.. any other day where she’s feeling like today, all she’ll have to do is click once, and be reminded.
(Please also remember to link to Judy somewhere in your post too.)

Judy.. this little award is for you. From Fracas. Place it in your sidebar, link to this post and never again forget how many people are sweeter because of you!
Because sometimes fracas can be a little dim… she doesn’t always know what’s going on. Jackie and Judy are two of the most special women you’ll ever run across online. I have something cooking on the backburner with Shinade (Jackie) and was going to wait until later to post her little gift from me… but I’ve decided to post it now, because a little birdie (or rather, a wrinkly old papersurfer) has let me know that perhaps Jackie could use some love today too. I therefore, dub this… the sugar and shinade post!
I’ve also created this little “award” of sorts, and am asking everyone who comes by here to write a post about why you love Jackie, take the image and include it in your post, link it to this post and I’ll find you and add you to the Jackie fan club list…. herewith and heretofore called the sugar and shinade list! The reason for the link here, is so that Jackie can take her image to her sidebar, link it to this one post, and anyone who clicks on it will get to see a list of how many people love Jackie! Then.. any other day where she’s feeling like today, all she’ll have to do is click once, and be reminded. Here’s Jackie’s address:

Jackie.. this little award is for you. From Fracas. It’s not as beautiful as the ones you make, but place it in your sidebar, link to this post and never again forget how many people believe you’re a blessing to them!

I realized something, and frankly I think it’s going to keep me awake nights.
I logged in to my fuelmyblog account, and checked the comments left. It’s a lovely little service they provide, users have the option to leave a comment with their vote. It makes for terribly interesting reading some days, but the problem is…
…sometimes, I forget what comments I’ve left for others, so when they reply with something equally as witty as that which I’d left for them… I have no idea what the heck they’re talking about.
I mean, have you seen my fuelroll over there in the sidebar?
There are more than ninety people on it. Even if I fuel half of them alternating days, coming up with comments is so darn taxing on my poor fraccy brain, that remembering what I’ve spewed forth in deranged abandon written with artistic and poetic freedom is nearly impossible.
Some days, the idea that I might forget what I’ve said causes me to click that little “I like the blog” button.
I think I need a 12 step program or something.
And so… those of you who have replied to my wit (and I can’t imagine what I could’ve said to warrant such a reply) with comments that have to do with little pink breasts (or was that houses…) or other such very imaginative thoughts, please don’t worry too much if my reply makes absolutely no sense at all.
Some consider that quite normal for me.
