August 24th – UPDATE: I’ve removed the links to this because apparently the thing was a scam  to get the blog owner backlinks. Visit the above link, or this one to see for yourself.

Most of the contests and offers I come across cause me to go, “huh…” and keep going. This one though, I am giving the time of day.

Why?

Probably because Mark did. Well, I have to take what he does or says seriously. After all, he’s the real daddy of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby Dannielynn. He’s just a big enough guy to let Larry Birkhead get all the glory.

Anyway, the instructions to take part in this are simple. There’s no tagging, no poems to write, no revealing pictures to post. All you have to do is re-post the paragraph below on your blog.

Over at Ashwin’s blog (link removed because apparently the whole thing was a scam), you will find one crazy blog owner!! You can win $2500!! To enter just copy this text and paste it in your blog!! But hurry, this competition will not last long! So get posting!

He’s not kidding. That Ashwin (link removed because apparently the whole thing was a scam) is indeed, one crazy blog owner. And I’m just sayin’… if one of you wins the $2500.00, I want a new pair of shoes.

(Hat tip to Mark)

Fracas’ The Monday Melee for August 6, 2007 – Say it with lyrics! edition

Special thanks go to Vic, for creating this spin on The Monday Melee. It was a really great excuse to listen to tons of old (and new) music, ignoring all my other responsibilities including the garden, the chores, work, the kids and Mr. Fracas too! I’m sure it’s an idea worth repeating.

1. The Misanthtropic: Name something (about humanity) you absolutely hate.

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there’s vultures and thieves at your back

From: Sarah McLachlan, Angel, (Surfacing, 1997)

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CbAjj80NIM

2. The Meretricious: Expose something or someone that’s phony, fraudulent or bogus.

What happened to the dreams of a girl president
She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent
They travel in packs of two or three
With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees
Where, oh where, have the smart people gone?
Oh where, oh where could they be?

From: Pink, Stupid Girls, (I’m Not Dead, 2006)

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar6bhinHVh4

3. The Malcontent: Name something you’re unhappy with.

This one’s for all you girls about thirteen
High school canbe so rough, can be so mean
Hold onto, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everyone’s giving in

This one’s for the girls

From: Martina McBride, This One’s For The Girls, (Martine, 2003)

4. The Meritorious: Give someone credit for something and name it if you can.

So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart
It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it’s getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin’ down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don’t worry but I won’t be able to write for awhile

Chorus: I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin’ for the love of a travelin’ soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin’ for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier’s coming home

One Friday night at a football game
The Lord’s Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read and nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

(Chorus x 2)

From: Dixie Chicks, Travelin’ Soldier, (Home, 2002)

5. The Mirror: See something good about yourself and name it

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we’re all OK
And not to worry ’cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won’t be made useless
I won’t be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they’re not yours, they are my own
But they’re not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken

From: Jewel, Hands, (Spirit, 1998)

6. The Make-Believe: Name something you wish for.

If I had a million dollars (If I has a million dollars)
I’d buy you some art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel  Brentlinger)

From: Barenaked Ladies, If I had a million dollars, (Gordon, 1992) (Slight alteration by Fracas)
