I’ve followed links about this story from several different sites and all I can say is that while it’s disgusting and evil… it’s not the first time I’ve seen crap like this happen to people.
It didn’t happen directly to the Scobelizer, but even he has felt the impact.
March 30: Participate in Stop Cyberbullying Day
Like many of you, I’ve been online for years, running message board forums before anyone really had any idea that someday everyone (and their little dog too) would have their own blog. Before people ran towards sites like livejournal, blogger and wordpress, fleeing the message board and discussion forum circuit for “their own place” just as eagerly as the twenty year old lad flees his basement room in the bungalow on the cul-de-sac he’s called home since he was in diapers.
I’ve seen it before. I’ve seen it just as ugly. I’ve seen it done to women, by other women; to women done by men and to men done by other men.
It’s never funny.
If you’ve ever been a victim or if you’ve ever been a witness, today, you can do your part. If you’ve never been either, be grateful and do your part anyway.
Start by creating a post and tagging it “stopcyberbullying”. You can also visit Stop Cyberbullying – Because We All Need to Take a Stand and try some of the ideas there, certainly something will appeal to you.
I’ve dealt with this issue with my kids for some time and frankly, have no excuse for why I’ve not had something up at fracas earlier. I’ll start here and build.
I hope you do the same.

Ya know, it’s sad … I’ve had so many death threats in my 25 years of blogging (yeah, that long — starting back in the BBS days!) that it’s ridiculous. I’ve had my pictures defaced. I’ve had my personal information spewn all over the place. Hell, I’ve even had a new rash of them over the last three months from psychotic Democrats and Neo-Nazi skinheads.
I don’t worry about it. Some people can deal with that trash, and some people can’t. You make yourself public, you make yourself a target, plain and simple.
Sure, it’s annoying to have to put up with that garbage. But it’s a risk you take every single time you come online, whether or not you’re a large target.
Most of this behaviour has to do with “The Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory,” which dictates, “INTERNET + YOU + ANONYMITY = FUCKWAD” …
It’s always been that way, and always will be.

I agree with you, though I like “tard” better than “wad” too.
But, here’s my point. Why SHOULD it be that way? Seriously. When we have children, as toddlers they will stand in front of you and stare you in the face while they take a dump in their diaper. At some point, we teach them that it is not appropriate to crap in public – and we teach them to use the bathroom.
In the same manner, some people need to be taught to keep their verbal diarrhea to themselves. What they mistakenly call their “right to free speech” is a lame excuse for bad manners and shitty character. Crapping on anyone else is not free speech, it is hate speech.
I agree with you that it always will be that way. I’ve been online since ‘95 and ugly hasn’t changed. I just don’t think it SHOULD be that way. The trick is figuring out how to make those people see what they’re doing. I don’t know how to do that because I can’t see things from their perspective. Much as I try, I just can’t bend backwards far enough to shove my head that far up my butt.
end rant. (at least for now)
Comment by LindaC April 1, 2007 @ 1:15 AMIt’s easy: I don’t CARE what they think, and until they’re in my face, I don’t have to shove THEIR heads up THEIR butts. ;-)
I have enough stress in my life without dealing with some online dumbass with too much unfed sexual tension. Besides, the culprit usually turns out to be a pimply-faced little Trekkie who still has a Tribble, new-in-box … or wears a tinfoil hat to keep out the Republican mind-control rays. *rolls eyes* ;-)
